Pastoral Curacy Program

Program Description: The Pastoral Curacy was created in 2015 for the purpose of giving a recently ordained priest (or postulant) an opportunity to transition from seminary to parish ministry with the goal of being spiritually formed and practically prepared for Anglican ministry in the ACNA. Over the course of two years, the curate works closely with a priest/supervisor at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral. The curate is involved in every aspect of parish ministry and also participates in a formation program.

Areas of Involvement and Learning: The Pastoral Curate will work under the direct supervision of one of St. Peter’s Cathedral Canons. In the course of this curacy, the Pastoral Curate will also be assigned pastoral and liturgical responsibilities within the life of the cathedral. The Pastoral Curate will also have the opportunity for an immersive and mentored experience in ordained ministry with a focus on pastoral care.

Current Status:

Applications for the 2025-2027 Curacy are currently closed.

Current Pastoral Curate

Chris De Stiger, 2025-27 Charles Simeon Curate

Chris De Stigter grew up as a “military brat” and spent much of his life living across the US and Europe. He came to faith in middle school and has always felt a call to ministry since then. Confirmed an Anglican in 2015, Chris has long held a love for the local parish and the unity of theology with pastoral care. In 2017, Chris quit his job in healthcare IT and began an M.T.S. at Duke Divinity School. Once finished, Chris and his family moved to Durham, England, where he pursued his PhD in Theology under the supervision of John Barclay. Chris’s wife, Hanna, grew up in Tallahassee, and so it became a natural destination for their transition back to America last fall. With his educational training nearing completion, Chris felt a renewed call to ordained ministry and discovered the curacy program at the Charles Simeon Institute and St. Peter’s. This providential opportunity led Chris to pursue ordination in the Gulf Atlantic Diocese, and eager to learn from the leaders, staff, and laity at St. Peter’s. Along with his wife Hanna, Chris has two sons, Jude and Alban. Beyond his love for learning, Chris takes special delight in cooking a great meal for his family, wrestling with his kids, traveling around the world with his best friend Hanna, hosting close friends, watching his favorite sports teams, and grabbing a coffee with a new acquaintance.
